The Son of God

Jesus of NazarethIsThe Son of God

The Bible clearly declares Jesus of Nazareth to be the Son of God. There are many passages that speak of His unique title. Here are a few reminders of when these occur in scripture:

On the announcement of His birth, Mary heard from the angel that the child born to her would be called by this name:

The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God” (Luke 1:35).

Even the demons and unclean spirits knew who He was:

Moreover, demons came out of many people, shouting, “You are the Son of God!” But he rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew he was the Messiah (Luke 4:41); Whenever the unclean spirits saw Him, they would fall down before Him and shout, “You are the Son of God!” (Mark 3:11)

And, of course, our Heavenly Father makes this proclamation for all to hear:

And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” (Matthew 3:17)

Heavenly Father,

We worship your Son, Jesus of Nazareth, as the Son of God. For you so loved the world that you gave your one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For you did not send your Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son (John 3:16-18).

Thank you for sending your Son, Jesus of Nazareth, to reveal the depth of your love for us. You have set us free from all condemnation. To you be all the glory! Amen.
