Morning Coffee Prayer

morning coffee prayer.png

Coffee has always been a significant part of my life. For me, it’s a chance to start my day and gather my thoughts – its fuel for my creative process. (Connor Franta)

In the morning, O Lord, hear my voice. In the morning, I lay my needs in front of you.” (Psalm 5:3)

Good Morning!

As you start your day, I hope you will spend a few moments with Jesus of Nazareth.

Get your coffee, or other favorite hot beverage ready, and sit and relax in His presence.

Today, I want you to know that He hears your voice. He hears you, knows you, and loves hearing from you. When you speak, He listens intently, as you lay your needs before Him.

In this place of quiet, He hears you, even if you don’t know what to say. So, if you find yourself in that place today, then just sit, rest, and enjoy His presence with you.

As you rest, let His peace come over you to comfort any hurt, heal any pain, and strengthen any weakness.

Be refreshed by His presence, encouraged by His joy, and restored by His love, as you lean completely on Him for all of your understanding.

He goes with you, and before you, wherever you go. So, trust Him, and rely on Him, for everything you need, because He has been tried, tested, and remains true to fulfill His Father’s plans within you.

You can do all things [which He has called you to do] through Him who strengthens and empowers you [to fulfill His purpose—You are sufficient in Christ’s sufficiency; You are ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses you with inner strength and confident peace.] (Philippians 4:13).

Lord Jesus,

I commit these moments to you. Thank you for the sweet fragrance of your presence with me, for I am truly blessed to have you in my life. For you are showing me how I can live, and move, and find my being in you, all the days of my life. Amen.

Washes Away My Sin

nothing but his blood

In fact under the Law almost everything is cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness [neither release from sin and its guilt, nor cancellation of the merited punishment]. (Hebrews 9:22)

I love the old hymnal, “Nothing But The Blood”, by Robert Lowry, because it reminds me of the finished work of Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus has fulfilled the requirements of the law, by shedding His blood on the cross. He was crucified as the lamb of God, buried, and raised from the dead, has been given authority to forgive our sin (Matthew 9:2-6) and only He can make us right with our Heavenly Father (John 14:6).

“What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
What can make me whole again?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
O precious is the flow
that makes me white as snow;
no other fount I know;
nothing but the blood of Jesus. ”

Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the LordThough your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They shall be like wool. (Isaiah 1:18)

Lord Jesus,

We say “thank you” with a grateful heart for being willing to be crucified on the cross for our sin, be buried, yet being fully made alive again by your resurrection.

I pray for Muslims, Atheists, and others alike who refuse to see your salvation for their sins. May your Holy Spirit convict them of their sins, convince them of their need for you, and remind them of the judgement to come. For today is the day of salvation for everyone who chooses to believe. Amen.

The Gay Lifestyle

why be gay

I guess I don’t understand the gay lifestyle, because when it comes to addressing it from a biblical standpoint, I see nothing that supports it.

Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit or have any share in the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate [by perversion], nor those who participate in homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers [whose words are used as weapons to abuse, insult, humiliate, intimidate, or slander], nor swindlers will inherit or have any share in the kingdom of God. (1 Corinthians 6:9-10)

As noted in the scripture above, there are many examples of unrighteous behaviour, including homosexuality, and God warns us not to be lead astray by such practices.

Feel free to leave me a comment with your thoughts.

Lord Jesus,

For me, this issue is black and white. Either we confess our unrighteousness and receive your forgiveness, or we remain in our sins and estranged from you. The choice is ours, life or death, and you know our heart’s desire in this way, so I pray that we would choose life, and be made right with you. Amen.

Does Fear Overwhelm You?

when fear overwhelms you

There is no fear in love [dread does not exist]. But perfect (complete, full-grown) love drives out fear, because fear involves [the expectation of divine] punishment, so the one who is afraid [of God’s judgment] is not perfected in love [has not grown into a sufficient understanding of God’s love].  (1 John 4:18)

Let’s take a moment to explore this topic of fear together.

First of all, its important that we recognize that every fear, except for the fear of the Lord, is part of the kingdom of darkness that seeks to steal God’s peace from us. The origins of our fear can be traced back to Adam and Eve who chose to embrace Satan’s fallen nature when they believed his deception about not trusting God.

As new creations, we are on a different path that leads to life. We are learning how to walk by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Old lies stay with our old nature, and they remain at the cross so that we can embrace the new life that God has designed for every person who truly believes in His Son.

The perfect love that we speak of comes from God, because God is the author of love, and every ungodly fear is removed by love. As we learn to trust in God, His love is established within the depth of our soul, where He is faithful to complete His work within us.

Every ungodly fear is driven out by God’s perfect love, so that we can rest and remain in Him. We look to Him for everything we need, just as a branch looks to its vine for everything it needs.

So, the next time you are overwhelmed by fear look for God’s perfect love. Fix your eyes on Jesus Christ, for His eyes are filled with love for you.

Lord Jesus,

Give me your eyes to see clearly whenever fear tries to blur my vision. I welcome your perfect love to drive out all of my ungodly fear. Thank you for settling me on the inside, and bringing me your comfort, whenever I feel afraid. Amen.
