Watch For His Provision

being at the beach

Whenever my wife and I go to the beach, we thoroughly enjoy our stay. We love being by the water, sitting together, going for a swim, and just listening to the sound of the waves washing up on the shore.

The beach is a wonderful place to relax, and to enjoy God’s provision. Did you know that God knows what we need, even when we are on the beach?

As morning was breaking, Jesus [came and] stood on the beach; however, the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. So Jesus said to them, “Children, do you have any fish [to eat along with your bread]?” They answered, “No.” And He said to them, “Cast the net on the right-hand side of the boat (starboard) and you will find some.” So they cast [the net], and then they were not able to haul it in because of the great catch of fish. Then that disciple (John) whom Jesus loved (esteemed) said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” So when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer tunic (for he was stripped for work) and threw himself into the sea [and swam ashore]. But the other disciples came in the small boat, for they were not far from shore, only about a hundred yards away, dragging the net full of fish.

So when they got out on the beach, they saw a charcoal fire set up and fish on it cooking, and bread. Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish which you have just caught.” So Simon Peter went aboard and hauled the net to land, full of large fish, a hundred and fifty-three [of them]; and although there were so many, the net was not torn. (John 21:4-11)

What an amazing time for Jesus to make His appearance to His disciples. He appears to them in His resurrected body, has breakfast cooking for them on a charcoal fire, and tells them where to fish so that they will have plenty to eat.

Isn’t God amazing! He knows our every need, shows up when we least expect Him and provides food and fellowship to those who desire His friendship.

In the days ahead, look for God’s provision. When you feel discouraged, look for His encouragement through people who want to support you. When you are in need of peace, then consider those who can help you to let go of your worry. In midst of loneliness, consider how the birds make you feel when they are chirping, and how this can remind you that the Father delights over you with singing.

Jesus of Nazareth can meet you right where you are. He understands your concerns, desires to fulfill your needs, and wants to spend time with you, even when you are on the beach. So, remember to look for His presence, for He will always provide for you. He loves you, cares for you, died for you, rose victorious over the grave for you, and His victory is your constant celebration. Amen.
