Leave Worry Behind

leave worry behind

Its not uncommon for us to worry, in fact many of us do. What matters is what we do with our worry. God’s Word shows us what we can do to leave our worry behind:

  • Worry does not extend our lifetime, but rather shortens it. So, we are called not to worry. There have been many times when I have gone grocery shopping, and the store clerks have help me. Their responses on numerous occasions have been “no worries”, and this reminds me that I can choose not to worry.
  • In every situation we can make our requests known to God. It doesn’t matter what is bothering us, God wants to hear about it. This means we can humble ourselves in recognizing our need for His help, be thankful that He hears our prayers, and boldly approach God’s throne of grace, because of the mercy of Jesus Christ.
  • As we move in this direction with our requests, He promises us His peace. This peace is beyond our comprehension, and it safely guards our hearts and our minds. The author of this peace is Jesus Christ, for He gives us His peace, and He leaves us with His peace. It remains with us, so that we don’t have to be afraid.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus,

Thank you for your Word, for within it you tell us how to overcome worry. Help us to follow your command not to worry. Give us the courage to speak to you about what bothers us. As we share our hearts with you, may we be thankful that you hear our prayers, and that you promise to answer us. May your peace surprise us, as you calm our troubled hearts. We welcome your peace to guard our hearts and our minds, for you know how to do this for each one of us. Thank you, Jesus. Amen.
