What Is Prayer?

what is prayer

Is the Son of God praying in me, or am I dictating to Him?… Prayer is not simply getting things from God, that is a most initial form of prayer; prayer is getting into perfect communion with God. If the Son of God is formed in us by regeneration, He will press forward in front of our common sense and change our attitude to the things about which we pray. (Oswald Chambers)

When I think about prayer, I think of being in communion with God where we talk with each other. Sharing with God is important, because it gives me the opportunity to express my feelings to someone who wants to listen. When I can lay down my burdens, I am more open to considering His ways, and changing my attitude about things. These are a few of the reasons I enjoy my prayer times with God.

What about you? What does prayer mean to you? Feel free to share your response in the comment section.

Heavenly Father, I pray that each one of us would take the time to share our thoughts about prayer. May we speak with you, and hear from you. Help us to share our feelings, and express our thoughts, and give us the patience to listen to you. As we wait upon you, may you strengthen and encourage us. To you be the glory! Amen.
