Praying For Wisdom

I accept your words and store up your commands within me, turning my ear to wisdom, and applying my heart to understanding. I call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding. I look for it as silver, and search for it as hidden treasure, so that I may understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God. For you give wisdom; from your mouth come knowledge and understanding. You hold success in store for the upright, you are a shield to those whose walk is blameless, you guard the course of the just, and protect the way of the faithful ones.

You will help me to understand what is right and just and fair – every good path. I welcome your wisdom to enter my heart and your knowledge to be pleasant to my soul. Your discretion will protect me and your understanding will guard me.

Your wisdom will save me from the ways of wicked men, from men whose words are perverse, who have left the straight paths to walk in dark ways, who delight in doing wrong and rejoice in the perverseness of evil, whose paths are crooked and who are devious in their ways.

Your wisdom will save me from the adulterous woman, from the wayward woman with her seductive words, who has left the partner of her youth and ignored the covenant she made with God. Surely her house leads to death and her path to the spirits of the dead. None who go to her return or attain the paths of life.

Your wisdom will allow me to walk in the ways of the good and keep the paths of the righteous. For the upright will live in the land and the blameless will remain in it; but the wicked will be cut off from the land, and the unfaithful will be torn from it.

Father, thank you for your wisdom and understanding. Amen.
