Effective Prayer

How can I pray more effectively?

Know the Bible:

You can pray more effectively by knowing the Bible. Learning God’s Word is essential for knowing God’s heart and His intentions. For example, when God speaks He says that when His word goes out from His mouth: It will not return to Him empty, but will accomplish what He desires and achieve the purpose for which He sent it. (Isaiah 55:11)

Trust God:

James 5:16-16 says: the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

Walk In His Grace:

God’s grace is enough for you for His strength and power are made perfect, and show themselves most effective, in [your] weakness. Therefore, may you glory in your weaknesses and infirmities, that the strength and power of Christ may rest upon you (2 Corinthians 12:9). God enables you to do what He calls you to do – its impossible to do anything (that matters) apart from Him.

Honor Your Elders:

Be willing to be accountable and teachable, as you grow in your knowledge of Christ Jesus. One way to do this is to honor your elders. Elders who provide effective leadership must be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who work hard in speaking and teaching (1 Timothy 5:17). You can grow in wisdom and maturity by being mentored by your elders.

Prayer:  Father, help us to pray more effectively. May we continue to learn how to apply your Word to daily living; pray by simply believing in faith in you; see your grace strengthen us in the midst of our weaknesses and infirmities; and honor our elders who lead us in their leadership. Amen.
