Instructing Your Child

Father,

I want to train up my child in the way he should go, so that when he is old he will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6). I need your continued revelation to know how to train him in the fear and knowledge of the Lord. I want him to follow You all the days of his life, and to rejoice in the God of his salvation.

Help me not to provoke my child to anger. I want to bring him up in the training and instruction of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4). As I follow You, may my example be a positive influence in his life. I want to be a good role model that he can imitate, and I desire to live a genuine lifestyle in my relationship with him.

May he welcome your discipline, and not resent your correction, because you correct those whom you love, just as a father corrects the son in whom he delights (Proverbs 3:11-12). I welcome your continued correction in my own life, so that my son can see the benefits of a parent who listens to, and obeys, your instruction.

Thank you Father for equipping me as a parent to raise up my child in a manner that would honor You, and glorify Your name.

Amen.
