You can go to bed without fear;
you will lie down and sleep soundly. (Proverbs 3:24)
Heavenly Father, may your wisdom and your understanding guide my sleep. May your wisdom lead me, knowing you will watch over me while I rest, and whenever I am startled from my sleep, you will commune with me (Proverbs 6:22).
Proverbs 3:24 says that I can go to bed without fear. Your Word also says “perfect love casts out fear, because fear has to do with punishment, and the one who fears has not been perfected in love.”(1 John 4:18). Father, perfect me in your love, and remove any form of punishment from me, knowing that Jesus paid for my sins in full.
May I enjoy the sweet sleep of a laborer (Ecclesiastes 5:12). You promise to keep watch over my steps and my sleep, and you have knowledge of all my ways (Psalm 139:3). Therefore, I am certain I can lie down and sleep, for when I awake I know the Lord sustains me. (Psalm 3: 5). In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety (Psalm 4:8). When I awake, and look around, may my sleep be pleasant to me (Jeremiah 31:26).
So, whether I lie down, or I’m awake, I know the Lord is with me. I will be strong and courageous, knowing you go before me, and you are with me; you will never leave me, nor forsake me (Deuteronomy 31:8). Knowing you are with me helps me sleep. Thank you that I can cast all my cares upon you, knowing you care for me (1 Peter 5:7).
Good night, Father!
